Alright everyone, it’s time to nerd out on some serious type. Answer me a question. When was the last  time you came across an awesome beveled sans face? Probably the last time you found an awesome inline. The truth is there are some out there, but they can be hard to find. Very few can deliver as much condensed-sans-beveled-awesomeness as the cool folks over at Aesthetic Apparatus. They’re getting their font on, and it looks oh so good.

Nice hand-drawn type is hard to find these days. Most bore us with repeating letterforms and textures that totally suck the charm out of their human characteristics. I have been exhausted by the overuse of these through student projects and amateur work. I recently rediscovered YouWorkForThem and their library of beautifully designed hand-drawn type—and one in particular. Meet Jeff Rogers’ son, Owen, the font.

Pompadour Numerals: Andy Mangold

When I first saw Andy Mangold’s Pompadour Numerals, I smirked. Then I smiled, and eventually, I laughed. It’s undoubtedly a beautiful font, but more than that, it’s fun.

Hand Painted Type

Hand Painted Type is an effort to preserve the ubiquitous sign lettering done by street painters in India. The project aims to collect as many typographic specimen sheets as possible, and digitize them before they become obsolete. Hanif Kureshi of Wieden+Kennedy New Delhi along with a handful of other contributors are the brains behind the operation.
