Bianca: Reflected Landscapes

Interior design of Bianca, a cruise ship on Lake Biwa in Japan, by Elena Manferdini. The design integrates a prismatic reflection of the exterior landscapes and horizons onto the interior of the ship.

I love how the ceiling and the floor work together in both color and texture. The reflective sheen of the ceiling, paired with the fantastic chrome pillars, collapses the space between the interior of the ship and the outside vista. But I think the brilliant foundation of it all is the faceting of the color palette. It’s a designer’s version of bokeh that places you in the scene while still providing a sense of the outside world.

Well they certainly do a good job of pitching the concept of the design but if I saw pictures of this cruise ship online, I would not choose to go on this cruise ship. The interior looks (to me) more like a science museum than a place where I would want to vacation.
