I’ve long been a fan of The Scout and the videos they produce regarding the topic of craftsmanship. In their most recent feature they introduce us to the wood sculptor Josh Vogel of Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Co. Of the many artists and craftsmen working today, Vogel’s work and ethos left a considerable impression on me.
Just as one tree is different from the next so are the large-scale wood objects he turns. I envy the deep connection he has as an artist and craftsman to the material he uses.
Each piece should thank Vogel for giving them a second chance at life in a way that allows us to appreciate their core beauty. This is why it’d be unfair to highlight only one of Vogel’s sculptures, since each is unique. Hopefully his pieces affect you as they did me and remind you to step away from the keyboard.
