Lampshades, Virassamy for Servomuto
A lot of the work The Principals does crosses specialties. In fact, we deliberately seek out projects which demand this, typically because the results can be unexpected. This type of work can get complicated very quickly, and although the results are unexpected, they aren’t necessarily good. What struck us about this collaboration between French illustrator Virassamy and Italian lamp manufacturers Servomuto is that it has a simplicity and elegance rarely seen in collaborations—with beautifully unanticipated results.
Virassamy is well-integrated in the electronic music scene, creating album covers, T-shirts and illustrations for labels like Rue de Plaisance and Supplemental Facts, but this marks one of his first endeavors into a truly new medium. First shown at the Consadori Gallery in Milan, the integration of an additional lighting element and traditional detailing take his rough yet deliberate style to an even higher level.
