A poster for the Chicago band Mazes, designed and printed by Sonnenzimmer

Sonnenzimmer is a husband/wife, art/design team out of the windy city, Chicago. They do a wide range of work, and this piece sure sticks out as unique. Their portfolio often will reference modernist design, much like this piece does, but they use that history to speak in new ways.

I really love how this poster for the band Mazes is multi-dimensional and demonstrates a sharp eye for space and form, in both 2D and 3D. As a designer I really think it is amazing how they designed this poster as a screen print and printed it by hand, like they do with all of their work.

I am a huge fan of Sonnenzimmer and can’t say enough good things about their work. I feel like they are doing new work, with a new vision when everyone seems to be busy trying to redo old things in a new way.

Interesting fact: The only thing I have on my walls are a “Vorm Gevers” poster by Wim Crouwel and three Sonnenzimmer posters.
