Mercedes-Benz “Left Brain Right Brain” Ad

These beautifully irreverent print advertisements are like jewels of fine art. You have to look pretty closely to see the product logo.

The text for the left brain reads:

“I am the left brain. I am a scientist. A mathematician. I love the familiar. I categorize. I am accurate. Linear. Analytical. Strategic. I am practical. Always in control. A master of words and language. Realistic. I calculate equations and play with numbers. I am order. I am logic. I know exactly who I am.”

And for the right brain:

“I am the right brain. I am creativity. A free spirit. I am passion. Yearning. Sensuality. I am the sound of roaring laughter. I am taste. The feeling of sand beneath bare feat. I am movement. Vivid colors. I am the urge to paint on an empty canvas. I am boundless imagination. Art. Poetry. I sense. I feel. I am everything I wanted to be.”

These double page spreads, created by Shalmor Avnon Amichay/Y&R Interactive Tel Aviv earlier this year, really struck me as out-of-the-box advertising for a car company. Wonderfully executed metaphors for the science and art that Mercedes espouses, these pieces really made me stop, investigate and appreciate.

    Truly Amazing…..

  • Souris

Really awesome. I find both parts very detailed and beautifully done. People will now really see the appropriate adjectives to describe themselves.

I was having a discussion with a friend the other day about right brain vs. left brain and this illustrates it perfectly.

I’m a serious amateur. This is exactly the kind of stuff I want to do. For me it is hard to conceive the fact that I have in my hands Adobe CS2 and besides creativity, I have everything I need to create works like this. This piece of work is truly amazing!

The copywriting for each side of the brain is poignant, powerful and descriptive. I am also attracted to advertising that is understated, just like this one.

I love these ads. A fabulous concept of pointing out the idea of left brain vs right brain. I would be interested in knowing how well these ads work for the company.

  • Markkimse

Absolutely lovely Illustrations, but I have 1 gripe:  Chess isn’t just as much “right-brained” as it is left, if not more.

*”Chess IS just as much “right-brained” as it is left”

I love these ads! I think it is pretty interesting that their logo is so small and tucked in the bottom corner. However, the ad draws you in so much that while you are looking around, some of the formal elements lead you to the logo.

  • mohit chauhan

this is really some genius add.
the description about the world of two halves of brain,…!
    mind numbing yet boggling..:)

  • Shannon Crabill

I really want prints of these. Perfect for the benz lover/designer couple

Too bad the left brain/right brain differences in functional neuroanatomy are overstated. There is some localization of function but the “left brain/right brain” distinction is a common misconception.

  • Cata

I love them, I would have incorporated the mercedes-benz symbol in the brain, faint barely noticeable, but it is a genius add :) congrats!

Fantastic! Love the contrast between left and right. And all the wonderful colours! My favourite is the one with the instruments and turqouise colour palette!

  • Vikram Parmar

i like this, colors are beautiful.

The feeling of sand beneath bare feat.

    Hi there,
Please revise the type error. Should be ”feet”.
I was hoping that it wasn’t a mistake in the ad – thankfully not.
