I recently completed a project focused on service experiences with energy in the home in 2020. One of the services that provided insight into the direction things are heading is the Nest. If I owned a home, I’d have one of these.
The Nest is a smart thermostat. It’s nicely designed, relatively simple to use and provides reports via mobile, tablet and the web. Knowing more information about how you consume energy is both good for your wallet and good for the environment.
You can also control your thermostat from your devices, which is way cool. So say you wake up in the middle of the night and feel hot. Just grab your mobile and turn up the AC from your bed. Coming home and want your house warm when you arrive? Turn up the heat while on the road (not while driving, of course).
Like I said, this is evidence of things to come. I look forward to seeing more smart interaction with our homes in the future. And if my previous project is any indication of what’s in store, it’s going to be a brave new world of in-home experiences.
