The RGBD Toolkit repurposes the depth camera on a Microsoft Kinect and combines it with a traditional DSLR camera to make films with variable perspective that can be changed in real time or post production.

DOF-Changeable Images: The Chaos Collective

Imagine being able to bring those blurry, out of focus images of yours into focus—after taking them. Light field cameras like the Lytro brought this old technology to the mainstream last year, but you still needed to buy their fancy proprietary camera. The Chaos Collective has put together a trick that now brings a version of the trick to any modern DSLR.

Back in my hometown there is a giant brick wall stamped with a barely visible, hand-painted Wrigley’s Gum ad—done decades ago, before papyrus-covered vinyl existed. A steady hand and days of patience made for incredible work that is unfortunately a dying breed. However, some incredibly talented folk like Colt Bowden are keeping the tradition alive.
