If you made me boil my design envy down to one project over the past year, there’s only one that comes to mind… Physical Fiction! Samuel Cox and Justin LaRosa have taken my favorite thing as a grown-up (letterpress) and combined it with my favorite thing as a child (legos) to make the coolest letterpress idea this century. |
“Most fun I've had with a project in a while.” This is a tweet from Dan Cassaro (aka Young Jerks) about the project he just completed for GOOD Magazine. I like Dan for this reason: He enjoys making stuff. Loving what you do is a simple idea, but it’s really important. I find when people are doing work they love, the work is always better for it. |
Tadanori Yokoo, born in 1936 and living and working in Japan, is one of my all-time heroes. Back in 1989, a professor at university showed me his work, giving me a peek at what is happening in different cultures. At this time, the library was the only way to see the work of other designers. I spent more time staring at bookshelves, exploring the past and trying to catch some of the present, than I did listening to lectures. I found out that this was a good way to follow my own interests and maybe build up my personality. |
I love Miranda July. There. I said it. I have lost all sense of objectivity toward this woman and have defaulted to non-critical words such as: omg, awesome, whiz bang, amazing and oh my, just really…so, so good (this is to be said in an exhausted, yet adoring tone). |
