Space is the Place (Video by Francisco Saco)

Berlin is a creative place: people are always organizing some type of art performance or opening in the myriad abandoned spaces. Rampenlicht, an innovative repurposing of a public bath into a skatepark, and the accompanying video, Space is the Place, represent the best results of this rampant creativity.

Designed by the 3ECK Kollektiv and recorded by videographer Francisco Saco at the Stadtbad Wedding, “Rampenlicht” was a public exhibition that ran from January 21–March 2, 2012, in Berlin. In a city where history runs deep—but the architectural record of that history has all but been destroyed—Rampenlicht poses important questions about what role new forms of art and leisure should play in the development of public space.
