Chad Wys, cover artwork for Maxence Cyrin’s “The Fantasist” (2012)
Chad Wys is a designer/artist based in Illinois. He’s been working with mixed media on varied subjects since 2009, from sculpture to paintings to collages.
I came across his work listening to Maxence Cyrin on Spotify. I enjoyed the music but I couldn’t stop looking at the artwork. It felt perfectly decadent and perfectly in-tone, enhancing the musical experience like all good album art does.

The idea of deconstructing/sampling/destructing existing art is hardly innovative or disruptive in this day and age, but Chad’s images are beautifully fragmented and reinterpreted in a way that feels effortless and evocative. It adds value. It feels genuine. I like his palette; I envy his precision and his vision.
